The top rusher from '07, Anthony Olave, as well as the top 2 receivers, Tyrone Richardson and Zach Pinney, return. QB Josh Aguirre also returns, but the level of his effectiveness will be the focus of a lot of wonder, as he is coming off of ACL reconstruction. Aguirre was also the 2nd leading rusher for the Mustangs last year, so if can't perform at a similar level, the team could struggle offensively. On defense, West Valley returns DTs Kyle Patterson and Tanner Gawle, along with LB Trevor Brown... all among the team leaders in tackles in '07. There may be no major stars on this team, but Coach Scott McRitchie doesn't necessarily mean you can count out his team. "No D1 prospects = good team mentality." Of course, he also knows the recourses of the lack of superstars, "No D1 prospects = little big play potential." That said, if Aguirre can recover enough, then the Mustangs could again be in the thick of the hunt for another playoff spot.
