Back to back last place finishes in the tough Serra League has been the topic of many discussions online at various locations. This year's Cub team could improve for a few reasons. First, they return 12 starters, including QB Steve Rokus and RB Anthony Barr. That experience is bound to help stabilize the team in close games. On the other side of the ball, new DC Drew Casani (captain of '91 D-I Cub championship team) is returning to his alma mater and may bring back some of the pride and tradition the exemplified many Cub defenses. A playoff spot will remain difficult to obtain, considering the competition they face in the Serra League, but Notre Dame is not anticipated to be quite the same next year, and they've competed reasonably well against arch rival Bishop Amat (in defeat) the last two years. One thing to also note is that Loyola will be hosting defending CIF D-I State Champion De La Salle in an early non-league game. |
