Coach Grider's father was the coach at Bakersfield West in the late 70s and early 80s, compiling an amazing record of 77-7-2. Grider and other coaching staff are generated from within, so there should be little scheme changes. The West Vikings return 12 starters, including offensive trio Ben Jarvis QB, Nate Wiley RB, Dion Curry WR. Curry recorded 981 receiving yards. David Born (a 6'8", 340 lb left tackle) anchors the offensive line, while all-league linebacker Brandon Oxford will lead the defense. The team has experience and speed, while depth at some positions may be an issue. West lost some athletes to a new school called Mira Monte that opened in Bakersfield, but they still maintain about 2,200 students.
