Outlook: Junior Justin Sumrall is back at Quarterback for his second year as a starter, and he is a pretty good indication of what the Indians look like this year. He is a pretty good player, with a little experience but not a lot, plenty of potential, but he is not a Senior. Leadership from Seniors is missing, and a rather small Senior class is apparent, but 12 starters are back including Sumrall and WRs Jake Cody Platt and Domingo Morales. At RB, it will be Daniel Perez who played last year as both a tailback and a WR; he will be spelled by Brittain Moya and Joseph Watson. Coach Brent Southworth is taking the longterm approach. "We are trying to build the program with our young players (last years 8th - 10th grade classes)," he said. "Santa Fe has a 29.6 winning percentage for their 66-year history of playing football, and they only had two playoff teams with no playoff victories. So not only are we trying to build the kids physically, but we also want to change the way they think and feel in their approach to football. We play in such a tough league, and Santa Fe will always be behind our opponents on talent. We will win with the program, if given enough time to change the mind set and the entire program. We must build from the junior high program to build a championship varsity program. We will be better than the year before with each year that goes by. Next year could be a challenge until our kids get older."
